Oily residue

Right from the beginning this beater performed well. There was no problem with chipping or not properly fitting the bowl. However, after awhile an oily residue became apparent each time I was ready to use it; so I would wash it again. It happened every time I would try to use it, so I knew it wasn't something I was doing wrong.. I tried emailing Kitchenaid with the problem, but got no response. When I read a review from a customer who had the same problem, I decided to take this course of action. I presume this oily substance is used in attaching the silicon to the blade. This item is made in China. Should we be concerned with regard to the oily substance?

I bought the flat beater last week.Used to make a 7up cake that calls for creaming butter and sugar for 20 minutes.This beater eliminates the need to stop and scrape the bowl constantly.Glad I bought it really saves time.

Then I received a notice from Amazon stating that the one I bought was not "authentic". Assuming that was the cause for my displeasure I bought another one at Bed Bath and Beyond. Bought this for my then new Artisan mixer about 9 months ago. Got around to try it 5 months later and it thumps like crazy. Receipt, didn't think I'd need it. Just bought a new one, and it's just as bad. That one I can return. Absolutely unusable! Sure would like a credit for the first one.Kitchenaid used to be synonymous with high quality,with your products lasting forever. This KFEST flex edge beater didn't work even once. I thought my mixer was going to walk off the counter! Sounded like it was doing real damage. I'm sure many of us are loyal KitchenAid customers, from major appliances to minor ones. I know I have been.I would sure like my money back for the beater I cannot use. This is a major design failure. I know Kitchenaid can do better.

Received this as a gift with my new 5 Qt. bowl for the artesian Mixer I have owned for 15 years. Great idea, but the beater does not fit the bowls, it thumbs, my old bowl too. Then white paint chipped off on the bottom of the beater also. Don't know who ate that ??? It's past my return date also so disappointed not like Kitchen aide to release defected items.

Ripped the 2nd time used

I'm writing a review for my bf. He just got this as a Christmas gift and was so excited to use it. On his 2nd use (and it can very most likely be on his 1st time use), the rubber part was half ripped and gosh...he was so dissapointed. Yes, he loves baking (specifically cookies). Yes, he loves his mixer & is very satisfied. Just not this soft edge mixer thing.

Expected better quality from KitchenAid

This is a great idea and I saw knockoffs of this item, but I purposely bought KitchenAid because I wanted the best quality attachments for my mixer. I am very disappointed that the rubber edge has split and now the beater is unusable. I see by the reviews that I am not the only person who has this problem.

Seems to be better than the last one!

I love my Kitchen Aid Mixer and all of the attachments and blades have been wonderful. This was a gift at Christmas from my husband because the one I had with blue silicone slotted blades on both sides of beater the blades began breaking off during use of making cakes into the batter over the holidays. I do not know if it had a warranty or not, and with all that goes on during the holidays I did not have time to look it up! I am hoping that the same thing does not happen to this one.

Junk product!

I have one of the Flex Edge Beater which has 2 chips on the top and an oil substance on the rubber, which I've tried unsuccessfully to clean off. The only star for this product is that it scrapes the side of the bowl; unlike the other tilt-head beater, without the rubber, which I also have, and it has numerous chips on each side. This is an overpriced, junk item and I am amazed to read how many other reviews are for the same reasons.

I thought all KA tilt-head mixers were standard; however the pkg for this beater does not list my KSM 90. I ignored that, assuming it was impossible to list each model, and bought it any way . Love the beater use it the most but.......

The plastic flex edge has become sticky. The plasticizers are coming out of the material. You can't clean the stickiness off. Can't use it any more because I don't want this residue in my food. Sad as much is this costs the plastic is poor quality! Would recommend if they change the material its made from.

I received this as a gift, and loved it....until a few months later the rubber began to crack and peel away. Now there is a sticky residue along the crack in the rubber between the part that coats the frame and the flap that extends beyond the frame. This piece has been hand-washed after each use, and worked wonderfully to scrape the sides of the bowl while mixing, but I'm very disappointed in the quality. I expected more from the KitchenAid brand.

Old Oster system big bowl broke. Motor smelled like it would burn every time we used it! So - time for a Kitchen Aid. Had a blast making Christmas cookies! They were THE best ever- with the same recipes I've always used! AND- less messy! Didn't have to scrape the bowl at all. Will be making lots more! Also really appreciated the metal, handled bowl! Saved clean-up!

Bought this a couple years ago at a local store. While I love the idea of a built in scraper....and almost love the job is does...I do not love the fact that the rubber scraper has developed cracks. Only gets used for the annual Christmas cookie "marathon," so does not have enough use for this to be happening. :(

Doesn't fit the Artisan mixer

I bought this as a gift for my daughter. She had just gotten her new mixer and was excited to use the attachment since I love mine so much. However, it doesn't fit the Artisan tilt head mixer even though it's supposed to be for that model. My old flex edge beater fits both of our Artisan mixers. Could the new beater be defective? Isn't it a standard size? It's very frustrating. I can't recommend this product since it might not fit. I love the older version.

I am on my third, yes third beater. These suck. I really wish you would stop using the white coating. I have called customer service and no help at all. Love my mixer use it all the time. HATE HATE HATE this beater.

Silicone Edge gets sticky after washing.

I bought this used and it looked fine. I washed all attachments with dish detergent and as soon as the beater dries, the silicone edge becomes sticky like something is seeping out of the rubber edge.

Tilt head flex edge beater

First time using the flex edge beater, hand washed it and had to throw out the entire cookie batter because of black oily substance mixed into the batter. I see another review with the same problem. Will not use it again because it's too expensive to throw out batter and will not take the chance of making anyone sick!

I bought this tilt-head flex edge beater for my Aunt who owns am at home bkery. She needed something to get the edges of the bowl clean and this defiantly did the trick. It's easy to attach and gets all of the batter mixed perfectly! I would highly recommend this product for any baker.

Flex Edge Beater Concerns

I purchased this beater about four years ago as a replacement for my original standard beater, when the paint on the original started to crack and peel at the connection point. Recently, the scraper appears to be leaking an oily substance. When I first noticed the problem, I hadn't used my mixer in about three months. The beater was siting in the bowl. There was what appeared to be oil all over the scraper, and a puddle of it in the bottom of the bowl. I thought someone hadn't washed it properly, so I washed it and then used it. I made sure that I washed it, myself, this time to be sure it was done properly. I checked it a week later and found the oily substance on it again. This time I resorted to using my old beater. Thank goodness I kept it as a back-up! I don't know what that oily substance is, but I hope I didn't poison my family by using the beater. I will not buy another scraper style beater. I would also note that I had the same issue another reviewer noted. The scraper had a tendency to flip ingredients out of the bowl, but the splatter shield helped. I also found that the scraper never actually scraped the sides of the bowl. I have a 5 qt model. Perhaps it works better on the 4.5 qt model.

Use with the splatter guard.

I bought the tilt-head flex beater thinking I wouldn't have to stop so often to scrape the edges of the bowl. Which it does. But some of the dry ingredients get thrown out of the bowl when mixing. Also, the liquids you pour in will also be thrown out. Much more than with the regular beater. I stopped the mixer & stirred the ingredients together. This helped a great deal. I do have the plastic splatter guard for the top of the bowl. Which I will use next time. The guard should cut down on splatter.

Good accessory but enamal chipped

The beater does a good job however after a couple months of use the enamel has chipped off the bottom. I don't like using this paddle because of this.

If you like making cakes this is definitely a must. You can whip up a cake and absolutely no time. You could also use it for cookies but I don't mind using the original flat beater for making cookies. This works great for frosting as well. And whether you look inside your metal bowl or outside of your glass bowl you can definitely see it scraping.

I bought this 6 months ago and initially I was very happy with it. It worked great. Then fast forward 6 months and the plastic is cracking and about to break off....who keeps a receipt for that long for a small-ish purchase?! No offer of any kind of replacement or help....treated like I was a criminal trying to get a free product. I offered to take pictures to submit as I've done with other companies. Avoid this item...not worth the hassle....use spatulas to mix intermittenly up with the regular paddle.

Paint on bottom of beater chipped off the 3rd time I used it

I was excited to buy this beater on vacation sometime ago. We were then gone for 6 months and just had opportunity to use it now for the 3rd time. It seems to do a good job, but certainly need to use my shield when adding flour, etc. Today I noticed something white sticking out of one of my baked cookies. It didn't look like a possible egg shell and with further searching found out small pieces of the white paint had chipped off the bottom of the beater. That made me :(
